SFP Modules

Know everything about SFP modules here, find out all the part numbers and brands which are available in the market.

SFP (small form-factor pluggable) is a compact, a hot-pluggable transceiver used for both telecommunication and data communicationsapplications. It interfaces a network device mother board (for a switch, router, media converter or similar device) to a fiber optic orcopper networking cable. It is a popular industry format jointly developed and supported by many network component vendors. SFP transceivers are designed to support SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and other communications standards. Due to its smaller size, SFP obsoletes the formerly ubiquitous Gigabit interface converter (GBIC); the SFP is sometimes, erroneously, referred to as a ‘Mini-GBIC’ (although no such device has ever been defined in the MSAs).

SFP Transceiver is hot pluggable, this make it easy to change and easy for maintenance compared with traditional modules. SFP fiber transceiver modules make the fiber optic network or fiber-Ethernet network easier to upgrade or maintain, users can replace a single SFP module during the process instead of replace the whole board with many modules on it.

Here I got the site all about GBIC modules, http://gbicmodules.blog.com/, maybe you’d like to have a look. ;)
